Premium Gourmet Coffee: Truth or Myth

As I started drinking my morning cup of coffee the other day, I received an email informing me that my beloved coffee manufacturer was adding nicotine to me coffee. I was, to say the least, outraged. How could they do this to me? Of course, I am intelligent enough that I did not simply accept this as truth. I decided to do some checking. My goal was to discover if my premium gourmet coffee manufacturer was indeed adding nicotine to my much loved morning cup of java.

Myth: Coffee manufacturers add nicotine to their product to get people addicted.
Truth: There is no recorded evidence that any coffee manufacturer has ever added nicotine to their coffee bean to create addiction. Coffee beans have a natural chemical that anyone who drinks coffee comfortably refers to as caffeine. Caffeine does act as a natural stimulant. Therefore, too much coffee can make some appear to be "wired". Caffeine has been proven to be addicting, as is any substance that alters how our body feels.

I discovered the dirty truth. My premium gourmet coffee was addictive, but not because someone was sneaking around and adding nicotine to my cup of java. I must admit, I felt relieved. However, I found a few other myths concerning my premium gourmet coffee. I decided to address those along with my "nicotine java" myth.

Myth: Coffee causes cancer.
Truth: Oh no! My morning cup of sunshine causes cancer?! Everyone can breathe a bit easier. Experts and scientists around the world all agree that coffee is not a risk factor for cancer. Many studies have been conducted on test subjects and even after huge overdoes of coffee, no cancer was found. (I wonder where I go to get a job overdosing myself on coffee.)

Myth: Coffee stunts your growth.
Truth: This is a myth I have grown up believing. I still have unpleasant flashbacks of my mother saying "Don't you dare touch that coffee. It will stunt your growth!" I was simply delighted to discover that coffee, in moderation, had absolutely no effect on my growth as a youngster. The only substance in coffee that is "active" is caffeine. Have you seen how much caffeine kids these days drink in soda?

Myth: Coffee is bad for your health.
Truth: I must admit, I have always felt slightly guilty for how much I drank of my morning cup of premium gourmet coffee. No more! I found that coffee is filled with antioxidants. Antioxidants help prevent heart disease and cancer. Therefore, I am actually increasing my health by drinking coffee! Of course, coffee also keeps your mind alert and helps with staying focused. In addition, coffee may actually reduce the process in kidney stone production. Coffee is not bad for your health. On the contrary, coffee is a wonderful addition to anyone's diet for a healthier lifestyle.

Coffee is an extraordinary substance that has a rich history. Firmly planted in our culture, coffee offers the opportunity for all people regardless of differences to have one thing in common: coffee. When I drink my next cup of premium gourmet coffee, I am going to smile as I realize that not only am I prolonging my own life, but I am sharing information with the world that will allow them to prolong their life as well.
