How To Make Your
Own Coffee Pods

Do you have a pod coffee maker, but wish you didn't have to rely on high cost coffee pods? Here is how to make your own coffee pods.
You'll need a stainless steel measuring scoop that fits into the pod holder on your pod coffee maker. Try a 1/3 cup measuring scoop because they usually fit perfectly.
Next, look for a jar or a glass that fits tight into the measuring scoop. You'll also need some Mr. Coffee style filters for a 4 cup machine. The tighter the filters are the better your finished coffee pods will be.
Now, take a single Mr. Coffee styled filter and shape it evenly over the end of your jar or glass or whatever you are using. Make sure to center it and press the jar or glass into the measuring scoop. Press it until you get nice tight edge in the filter paper at the bottom of the measuring cup.
Remove the jar, leaving a cup-shaped filter in the measuring scoop. Add 2 teaspoons of your favorite ground coffee to the paper filter or more or less to your taste.
Make sure to spread the grounds evenly across the bottom of the filter. Then use your finger to gently fold over the extra filter material, completely covering the ground coffee being careful to make even folds.
Now place the jar into the scoop one last time and press down really hard with the palm of your hand. Just invert the scoop and pop out your coffee pod. These work just as well as the coffee pods you buy and you can use your favorite coffee while saving money at the same time.

Did you know that the number one source of antioxidants in the American diet is coffee? This follows a growing number of reports of even more potential health benefits of drinking coffee.
According to a new study by researchers at the University Of Scranton PA., Americans get more of their antioxidants from drinking coffee than any other dietary source and nothing else even comes close.
The research team analyzed the antioxidant content of more than 100 different food items, including vegetables, fruits, nuts, spices, oils and common beverages.
The results are surprising because it represents the first time that coffee has been shown to be the primary source of antioxidants. Fruits and vegetables are generally promoted as good sources of antioxidants but coffee has now topped the list.
So what are antioxidants? Antioxidants are substances that help protect cells in the body against damage acting as a defense against oxidative damage. Some of the sources of oxidants are cigarette smoke, air pollutants, radiation and tissue inflammation.
The role of an antioxidant is to help reduce oxidation reactions and thus reduce damage to body tissues. Antioxidants have been linked to a number of potential health benefits, including protection against heart disease and most forms of cancer.
Chlorogenic acid, caffeic acid, and melanoidins are all antioxidants found in coffee. N-methylpyridinium, found in coffee, has also been identified as an anti-oxidant.
Several studies have shown that a sufficient intake of dietary antioxidants, including drinking coffee, may help in preventing or postponing the onset of degenerative diseases.
Coffee is one of a number of drinks that contain antioxidants. Antioxidants are also found in tea, cocoa and red wine. But coffee has actually been shown to contain four times as many antioxidants as tea.
Even though the thought that coffee could reduce the risk of heart disease and other diseases is great, the reality is we all drink it because we enjoy the taste as well as the effects of the caffeine. But it never hurts to know that the health benefits of coffee continue to stack up.

The history of coffee can be traced at least as early as the 9th century, in the highlands of Ethiopia
There are now more Starbuck's Coffee locations in China than in the USA.
Americans' taste for coffee grew following the War of 1812, which had temporarily cut off access to tea imports.
Coffee is thought to be indigenous to south-western Ethiopia, specifically from Kaffa, from which it may have acquired its name.
Arabica coffees were traditionally named by the port they were exported from, the two oldest being Mocha, from Yemen, and Java, from Indonesia.
Most arabica coffee beans originate from one of three growing regions; Latin America, East Africa/Arabia and Asia/Pacific.
Black coffee has a pH of around 5.
It takes less than a minute to make espresso, compared with 5 to 10 minutes for percolator or drip coffee.
Only one quarter of all the blooms of most coffee plants actually mature into harvestable green coffee cherries.
